RHINO Robots is famous for their XR series of robot arms.  Over the years they have had several different models of their robot arms as well as accessories to complement the robot arm to make an entire work cell.  These are great for educational environments and even for some small labs.  At one point they also produced a mobile robot called the Scorpion but that is not longer made.

Rhino Robots are still in production. They have several new models including the XR-4 and many accessories. They can also provide upgrades to existing XR robot arms, and parts. Unfortunately they can not help with the original XR-1 robot arm or the mobile Scorpion robot. Their contact information is below:

Trivia: A RHINO ARM answered the phone in the Movie “Short Circuit”

Although Rhino robots is well know for their high quality robot arms they did manufacture a small mobile robot at one point.  Back in 1983 they created the SCORPION robot.  It looked a lot like a minute lunar rover.  The specs on the Scorpion robot are:

– 11″ x 14″ body
– Four bump sensors with 8 micro-switches
– 6502 Main CPU
– Two 6522 Interface chips
– 8K EPROM, 2K RAM (upgradable to 8K)
– Four stepper motors (two for main drive, 1 pan, 1 tilt for light sensor)
– Speaker
– Two light sensors
– Two floor scanners

I believe the production of around 1000 Scorpion robots were made.  Any other Scorpion robot owners out there?
